What Helps Postpartum Depression or Postpartum Mood Disorder (PPMD)

  • Let someone know how you are feeling i.e. family member, doctor, midwife, nurse or friend.

  • Get rest, nap when the baby naps.

  • Ask for help around the house - laundry, cleaning the house, meals etc.

  • Eat well - small healthy meals throughout the day, avoid caffeine and high sugar foods and drinks.

  • Talk with other mothers or attend a peer support group.

  • Learn more about PPMD.

What partners and family can do:

  • Remember it is not anyone's fault.

  • Listen to her.

  • Encourage her to go to her doctor.

  • Offer to help with the baby and around the house i.e. meals, laundry, cleaning.

  • Take care of yourself.

  • Take time to talk with a friend.

  • Learn more about PPMD.
