Cleaning and Disinfecting Toys

Toys are often shared by children in daycares and other child-care settings.

Because they do not know better, young children can place toys in their mouth or sneeze and cough directly onto toys. This increases the risk of spreading germs to others.

Regular cleaning and disinfecting of shared toys in a child-care setting is crucial for reducing the spread of illness. Choosing toys that are easy to clean is also important. Child care staff should clean, disinfect toys, play areas, and toy storage areas on a regular basis, but especially in periods when illness may be circulating in the facility.
