When to Get Help with Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is a learned activity for both mom and baby. There are a number of resources to help moms if help is needed along the way!

In the early days, it is a good idea to get help if baby:

  • is not breastfeeding at least eight times in 24 hours

  • does not have enough wet and dirty diapers

  • still has black colour bowel movements after day three

  • is fussy or very sleepy

Moms should also seek help if they have nipples that hurt, or have breasts that are hard, red, or painful. Moms should also seek help if they have any questions or concerns.
