Breastfeeding and Medications

When you take a medication, a small amount of it passes into your breastmilk. Many medications are safe for a mother to take while breastfeeding, but some medications may be harmful to baby or affect your milk supply.

Using street drugs may cause harm to your growing baby.

To find out more about the effect medications or drugs might have on breastfeeding, talk to your pharmacist, your health care provider or call Motherisk at 1-877-327-4636.
