Healthy Baby Healthy Brain

Here’s something to think about: the first few years of life are critical for healthy brain development in babies and young children.

As a parent or caregiver, you play an important role in helping to build your baby’s brain. Best of all…you don’t have to be an Einstein to make it happen.

It’s easy to stimulate and support your child’s brain development. Every day, you can make a difference with your child, simply by what you say and do, and how you interact with them.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Start early – Give your baby’s brain the best start. If you’re pregnant, stay active, eat well and avoid alcohol, drugs and tobacco smoke.
  • Love builds brains - Building attachment with babies, listening to them and helping them cope can support them in reaching their full potential.
  • Playing builds brains – More than anything, babies need your love, time and attention. Make play a part of your everyday routine.
  • Health builds brains – Consider ways that can help your baby grow and develop. Breastfeeding and proper nutrition are important, as are physical activity and proper sleep.
  • Baby’s world matters – Create a safe and nurturing environment for healthy brain development. Routine can help your baby thrive. So can reducing your baby’s stress.
