Garage Sale Safety

Having a garage sale? Don't sell out on safety!

Selling unsafe items is dangerous and illegal.

If in doubt about the safety of used children's products such as car seats, cribs, playpens, sports equipment and other items, dismantle, destroy or dispose of them.

Don't pay the price! Think safety!

Products that you get at garage sales may appear in good condition, but could be quite the opposite. Selling unsafe items at garage/yard sales is not only dangerous, but also illegal under the Canada Consumer Products Safety Act. This federal law outlines safety requirements for products, including items such as:

  • Baby gates

  • Car seats

  • Children's sleepwear

  • Cribs

  • Protective sports equipment

  • Playpens

  • Strollers

  • Toys & lawn darts

Know what your obligations are under the law if you are planning to hold a garage sale.  Reduce your risk of liability and help increase everyone's safety.
