What will the Provincial Lab routinely test for?

Bacteria:

There are two tests routinely done for bacteria: Total Coliform and E. coli.

Total Coliform

Coliform bacteria are present in animal wastes, but are also found in soil and vegetation which may mean that rainwater and run-off is getting into your well. The well cap should be inspected to ensure that it is secure and in good repair.

E. coli
E. coli bacteria are only found in the intestinal contents of all animals, including birds and humans. The presence of E. coli bacteria in your well indicates that there is some fecal contamination which may cause disease.  E. coli levels should always be zero.
