Oral Health

Oral Health staff at the Health Unit promote oral health for people of all ages. The staff assess the teeth of students attending local schools, identify schools in which the risk of tooth decay is greatest and work with the school and parents to improve the oral health of the children.

A variety of free preventive services for eligible children and youth 17 years of age and younger are also provided by the Health Unit. Services include: Fluoride Varnish applications, sealants, scaling and oral hygiene instructions. Oral Health staff can also help eligible families apply for and access free dental treatment through the Health Smiles Ontario program.

In addition, Oral Health staff work closely with community partners to advocate for reduced barriers to oral care for local residents and help provide dental care for children and youth whose families cannot afford dental care.
