- Call Goes Out for Donations of Gently-Used Children’s Clothing and Items Ahead of Family Gala Event -

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES) – Get a good start on your spring cleaning by checking your closets and cupboards, rummaging around your basement and seeing what is under your bed.

Any extra items you don’t need could benefit a local child in need.

Between now and May 20, a donation drive is underway in the City of Kawartha Lakes. The goal is to collect gently-used children’s items such as clothing, books, toys and DVD/videos. These items should be in good condition and can be dropped off during regular business hours at the following locations in Lindsay:

  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes (107 Lindsay Street South).
  • Community Living (Suite 200, 205 McLaughlin Road).
  • Ontario Early Years Centre (55 Mary Street West).

All donated items will be sorted and checked to ensure they are clean and appropriate for reuse. These items will then be made available for the children’s item giveaway event taking place at the upcoming Family Gala. The Family Gala event takes place on Saturday, May 24, from 9 am to 1 pm at the Boys & Girls Club in Lindsay. The Family Gala is a free, family-oriented event that provides fun and games for children while showcasing the variety of resources and services available for families in Kawartha Lakes.

The children’s item giveaway event is a popular part of the Family Gala, says Kelly Taylor, an event organizer and Family Health Nurse with the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit. “This is a great way for families to pick up used items and toys that still have a lot of wear and use left in them,” she says. “For people who want to donate to the drive, we just ask that the items be in good shape so that they will benefit a child in our community.”
