Health Unit Annual Report Highlights Role of Public Health in Communities

Have you ever wondered what type of work public health does in your community?

Through its newly released 2013 Annual Report, the Haliburton, Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit is providing an answer to that question.

Produced in-house, the report is a 10-minute video that not only highlights the organization’s accomplishments in 2013, but also features a number of Health Unit staff talking about their work in the community and the importance of public health.

“Public health plays a vital role in the health and well-being of the residents of our communities, but because a lot of our work focuses on prevention, people may be unaware of what we do,” says Medical Officer of Health Dr. Lynn Noseworthy.

The Health Unit is required to provide the public with information about the work it accomplishes. Rather than provide just a written account of the data, Dr. Noseworthy says the Health Unit aims to provide the information in a format that will be more interesting and engaging to residents so that more people may take the time to watch and learn more about the organization’s programs and services. Including staff in this year’s video also enables the Health Unit to showcase a small sample of the exceptional people who work with the organization and feel passionate about helping others in the communities they serve, she says.

“Our people are truly the strength of our organization,” Dr. Noseworthy says. “We have a number of exceptional professionals who are dedicated to providing the best programs and services possible to help keep our residents healthy.”

The video can be viewed through the Health Unit's websiteor through the Health Unit’s YouTube Channel (HKPRDHU).
