MAKE A DATE FOR FAMILY FUN

- Call Goes Out for Donations of Gently-Used Children’s Items Ahead of Family Gala Event on May 23 -

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES) – With only a month to go until a free, family-oriented event returns to Lindsay on May 23, you’re being asked to do a bit of spring cleaning around your home.

Gently-used children’s items such as clothing, books, toys and DVD/videos are being collected by organizers in the lead up to the Family Gala event. The Family Gala event takes place in Lindsay on Saturday, May 23, from 9 am to 1 pm at the Boys and Girls Club of Kawartha Lakes (107 Lindsay Street South). The event provides fun and games for children, a free lunch for everyone, and showcases the variety of resources and services available for families in Kawartha Lakes.

“The Family Gala is all about connecting families with fun and facts, and making everything available under one roof,” says Kelly Taylor, an event organizer and Family Health Nurse with the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit.

She notes that a children’s item giveaway is a popular part of the Family Gala, since it allows people to pick up used clothing items and toys that are in good condition.

In order to have a good selection available for the giveaway event, local residents are being encouraged between now and May 21 to drop off used children’s items during regular business hours at the following Lindsay locations:

• Boys & Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes (107 Lindsay Street South).

• Community Living (Suite 200, 205 McLaughlin Road).

• Ontario Early Years Centre (55 Mary Street West).

“When donating, we ask people to make sure that items are in good shape,” Taylor says. “All donated items will also be sorted and checked by organizers to ensure they are clean and appropriate for reuse.”
