- Family Gala Event in Lindsay on May 23 Promises Plenty of Free Fun for the Entire Family –

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES) – What do fire trucks, police cars, Captain America, wacky hair, face painting, zumba, kids’ crafts, Winnie the Pooh, and a free lunch of pizza, subs and cookies all have in common?

They’re all part of the attractions and activities that will be featured at the 11th annual Family Gala event taking place in Lindsay on Saturday, May 23, from 9 am to 1 pm at the Boys and Girls Club of Kawartha Lakes (107 Lindsay Street South).

The Family Gala is a FREE family-friendly event that offers something for all ages, say event organizers.

“The Family Gala offers entertainment and fun activities for children, while giving parents and caregivers a chance to find out about the many resources and services available for families in the City of Kawartha Lakes,” says Kelly Taylor, an event organizer and a Family Health Nurse with the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit. “The Family Gala brings together free fun and facts all under one roof.”

One of the most popular parts of the Family Gala is the free children’s item giveaway that takes place during the event. It is a chance for people to pick up used children’s clothing, toys, books and DVDs and other items. According to event organizers, there is still time for people to drop off donations of children’s items for the giveaway. Gently-used items such as clothing, toys, books and DVDs that are in good condition can be dropped off until May 21 during regular business hours at the following Lindsay locations:

• Boys & Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes (107 Lindsay Street South).

• Community Living (Suite 200, 205 McLaughlin Road).

• Ontario Early Years Centre (55 Mary Street West).

At the actual Family Gala event on May 23, there will be plenty of free activities for children to enjoy. Children can take part in crafts, face painting and a wacky hair activity. They can also try out activities like drum fit, zumba and cha cha. Cartoon characters such as Winnie the Pooh, Dora the Explorer, Captain America and Olaf and Elsa (of Frozen movie fame) will be on hand. So will local police officers, firefighters and EMS personnel, who will have their emergency vehicles with them for children to look inside.
People attending the Family Gala are also invited to enjoy a free lunch consisting of pizza, subs and cookies.
