- Free Event Provides Tips to Parents on Helping Toddlers Become Better, and Less Picky, Eaters -

(COBOURG) – If you are dealing with a toddler who is a picky eater, then this ‘fearless feeding’ event is sure to whet your appetite.

Fearless Feeding is the name of a free Toddler Nutrition Workshop that takes place Wednesday, September 30, from 7-8:30 pm, in the Conference Room located in the lower level of Northumberland Mall (1111 Elgin St. W.) in Cobourg. The event is geared to parents and caregivers. No registration is required.

The event is presented by the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit, in partnership with the Northumberland Family Health Team.

The toddler years can be a difficult time, admits event organizer Laura Abbasi, especially when young children resist or refuse to eat the food that is placed in front of them.

“Dealing with a toddler who is a picky eater can be a real challenge, especially when it turns dinner into a nightmare for families,” says Abbasi, a Registered Dietitian with the HKPR District Health Unit. “The Fearless Feeding event covers specific nutrition challenges posed by toddlers, and provides tips on how to more effectively feed your child.”

Abbasi, who is leading the September 30 workshop, says the goal of the event is two-fold. “We want to help parents change a toddler’s eating habit, so that it goes from ‘yuk’ to ‘yum’,” she notes. “We also want to make mealtime a more relaxed and positive time for everyone.”
