- Health Unit Nurses Can Provide One-on-One Breastfeeding Support for Women in Area -

Booking a trip to a local Health Unit office is one way for new mothers to get direction and support along their breastfeeding journey.

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit is promoting one-on-one breastfeeding support clinics available by appointment at its offices in Lindsay, Port Hope and Haliburton. The free clinics provide a comfortable, private setting and one-on-one time for a woman to meet with a Family Health Nurse to ask questions, as well as get support and encouragement for breastfeeding her baby.

To find out more information or book an appointment, local residents can call the Health Unit toll-free at 1-866-888-4577 and speak to a Family Health Nurse. A new promotional video on the breastfeeding support clinics is also posted online.

“Breastfeeding is important for both mother and baby, from the first hour of life up to two years and beyond,” says Tammy Thomson, a Family Health Nurse with the HKPR District Health Unit. “Sometimes families need extra support during their breastfeeding journey and we’re here to provide information, encouragement and advice at any stage. We invite parents to contact us anytime with their breastfeeding questions or concerns.”

More breastfeeding information and resources are available at the Health Unit’s breastfeeding support Facebook page.
