Board of Health Ratifies Collective Agreement with CUPE Members

The Board of Health for the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit today ratified an amended collective agreement with its CUPE members.

The new four-year collective agreement is effective from January 1, 2016 and includes:

• a salary increase of 1.5 per cent in both 2016 and 2017, and a 1 per cent increase in 2018 and 2019.

• some improvements in extended health care and time off benefits.

• inclusion of Remembrance Day as a paid holiday.

As well, the agreement clarifies a number of other provisions.

“We are pleased with the agreement reached by management and CUPE,” said Mark Lovshin, Chair of HKPR Board of Health. “It provides our staff with a fair level of compensation, recognizing their hard work. It is also in keeping with the range of settlements seen at other health units.”

Dr. Lynn Noseworthy, Medical Officer of Health for the HKPR District Health Unit, said she is pleased that the new agreement will provide labour stability at the Health Unit for the next four years.

“Given these times of financial restraint I am pleased that CUPE worked with our management team to develop an agreement that is fiscally responsible and allows our staff to continue their work of providing public health programs and services to our communities,” she said.

There are 84 CUPE Local 1602 members employed by the Health Unit, with membership including public health inspectors, health promoters, administrative assistants, finance and communications staff. CUPE’s last contract expired December 31, 2015.
