- Free Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinics For People With Special Needs Set for October 29 in Port Hope and Lindsay -

This is one drive-thru where people are asked to skip the jolt of java and instead get their best shot at staying healthy this winter.

For the 15th straight year, the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit is offering free ‘Drive-Thru’ Flu Shot Clinics that are geared to accommodate individuals with special needs who want their flu shot. This year’s drive-thru flu shot clinics are set for Saturday, October 29:

• In Port Hope at Lakeshore Auto Body (149 Rose Glen Road).

• In Lindsay at Polito Ford Lincoln (Kent Street and Highway 7).

Space is limited, and appointments are required. To book an appointment, call the Health Unit toll-free at 1-866-888-4577, ext. 1507, no later than October 21 at 4 pm.

“Often people with certain medical conditions or special needs are the ones who most need to get a flu shot every winter, so these clinics are tailored to make it as easy as possible for them to be vaccinated,” says Marianne Rock, Manager of Communicable Disease Control, Epidemiology and Evaluation with the HKPR District Health Unit. “People can be vaccinated in the comfort of their own vehicle, and drivers and caregivers can also get their flu vaccination at the same time.”

The Health Unit gears these drive-thru flu shot clinics to individuals who: are frail with significant difficulty walking, use a wheelchair, are recovering from back or heart surgery, are recovering from a stroke or brain injury, have serious auditory/visual conditions, require a guide or companion dog, are oxygen dependent, are developmentally/mentally challenged, or have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

For other residents seeking their free flu shot, vaccinations will soon be available from local health care professionals and pharmacists. For more information, call the Health Unit at 1-866-888-4577 or visit .
