- Appreciation Event to Say Thanks to Volunteers and Supporters of School Nutrition Programs -

(NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY) – “Thank you!” “Merci beaucoup!” “Way to go!” “Gracias!” “We appreciate all you do.”

No matter how you say it, volunteers and supporters of the 38 school nutrition programs across Northumberland County deserve recognition. For that reason, Northumberland Food For Thought is organizing an event to honour the work of its approximate 250 volunteers and supporters:

WHAT: Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon

WHEN: Tuesday, May 14, 11 am to 1:30 pm

WHERE: Cobourg Lion’s Centre (157 Elgin Street East)

WHY: Northumberland Food For Thought will honour its volunteers and supporters with lunch and the presentation of recognition certificates. These individuals help ensure local school nutrition programs are able to provide food to approximately 3,200 students every day in Northumberland County, ensuring they can attend school well-nourished and ready to learn.

(NOTE TO MEDIA: Members of the media are invited to attend for photo and interview opportunities. Lunch is available from noon to 12:45 pm, and media members are invited to take part in the meal.)

“Volunteers give of their free time, and supporters help to contribute the funds needed to ensure local nutrition programs are there for students,” says Susan Greenwood, Community Development Coordinator with Northumberland Food For Thought. “To everyone who supports us, a big ‘thank you’ from Northumberland Food For Thought and all of the children who benefit from your work!”

According to Greenwood, in a typical year, volunteers can contribute more than 45,000 hours to Northumberland Food For Thought, helping to raise funds, plan, prepare and serve approximately 457,985 breakfasts and 779,180 snacks.Northumberland Food For Thought is the non-profit partnership that co-ordinates student nutrition programs in the area. These programs are free and voluntary for students. To assist or find out about school nutrition programs, call (905) 372-7863 or visit the Northumberland Food For Thought website.
