- For Sixth Straight Year, Cameco Supports Student Nutrition Programs in Northumberland County -

(NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY) – Cameco Corporation has recently donated funds to Northumberland Food For Thought to ensure local students have the food they need to succeed in school.

The funds will allow for the bulk purchase of cheese, fruit and vegetables that will be housed at the Food 4 All Warehouse in Cobourg, and then distributed as needed to schools across Northumberland County for use in their student nutrition programs.

It’s the sixth straight year that Cameco has supported Food For Thought and its 38 school nutrition programs in the area. Funds are provided through Cameco’s community investment program, which focuses on: youth, education and literacy, health and wellness, and community development.

“Food For Thought is a perfect fit for our funding focus, since its student nutrition programs help ensure local students are well-nourished and have the food needed to learn and succeed in school,” says Bill Koch, Director of Public and Government Affairs with Cameco Corporation.

Says Susan Greenwood, Community Development Coordinator with Food For Thought: “We are very grateful for Cameco’s continued funding commitment to student nutrition programs, especially when we know there are so many other causes in our community that are worthy of support.”

To recognize Cameco’s donation, Northumberland Food For Thought is organizing the following:

  • WHAT: ‘Cameco’ Appreciation Assembly
  • WHEN: Friday, May 10, 10 am
  • WHERE: St. Anthony Catholic Elementary School (74 Toronto Rd.) in Port Hope
  • WHY: Students, local educators and Northumberland Food For Thought representatives will present a ‘thank you’ card to Cameco officials.

(NOTE: Members of the media are invited to attend for photo and interview opportunities.)

Northumberland Food For Thought is the non-profit partnership that coordinates student nutrition programs in the area. These programs are free and voluntary, and provide food to approximately 3,200 students each day in Northumberland.
