MRSA Alert


The Health Unit has been made aware of a number of MRSA cases involving people who use inhalation/injection drugs.


At this time, we are asking for your assistance in supporting your vulnerable, at-risk patients by providing them with the following information:

  • Never share drug-using equipment or personal items like towels, razors and unwashed clothes.

  • Regularly wash hands.

  • Keep wounds covered.

  • Seek medical attention, especially if a cut or wound is red, swollen, painful and not healing.

The Health Unit continues to monitor the situation. It is also working closely with harm reduction staff at PARN – Your AIDS Resource Network to directly advise people who use drugs about the risks of MRSA and other infections.
