Rethink Health: Make it a Municipal Matter
The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit supports municipalities to create healthier places to live, learn, work and play. We do this by:
• Promoting healthy living
• Protecting against disease
• Preventing illness and injury
Make Health Part of Every Municipal Decision
The Health Unit is mandated to support municipalities in creating healthier communities. We can help municipal leaders or staff members planning a new initiative, starting a new project, or looking to review a policy/bylaw. Our staff members have expertise in a wide range of public health topics. We can provide advice, feedback and resources to support the work of municipalities in many different areas: including:
• Active transportation • Access to dental care
• Accessible and affordable recreation initiatives
• Age-friendly initiatives • Built environment
• Bylaw development • Community food security
• Emergency management • Land use planning
• Policies to promote healthy eating • Recreation strategies
• Safe communities • Smoke-free social housing
• Social determinants of health
