Welcome to Health For Life!

H4L - mom and daughterHealth for Life is a community partnership that encourages and supports thousands of people in Southern Ontario to make healthy lifestyle choices so they enjoy their health for life. Since 1998, Health for Life has worked with many committed individuals and groups in Haliburton County, Northumberland County and the City of Kawartha Lakes to see this vision come true.

While we don't have control over our genetic makeup, research shows healthy lifestyle choices do make a difference for people. A healthy lifestyle helps us feel better, have more energy and reduces our risk of getting heart disease, diabetes, stroke, osteoporosis and some types of cancer.

Health For Life promotes the importance of eating well, being active and being smoke-free.

Eating Well

  • enjoy a variety of foods
  • snack on fruits and vegetables
  • eat foods that are lower in fat
  • avoid extra fat like cooking oil, butter and margarine
  • reduce salt, alcohol and caffeine

Being Active

  • walk - a 10-minute walk is beneficial. Use the many trails in our area
  • go outside and play actively with your children
  • make physical activity part of your daily routine
  • be active your way everyday for life

Staying Smoke-Free

  • if you smoke, quit! If you don't smoke, don't start!
  • ask others not to smoke around you or your children
  • consider making your home and vehicle smoke-free

"We envision communities where people

have the knowledge and ability to choose

healthy lifestyles where they work, live and play."
