Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How does healthy living reduce my risk of getting disease?

A. Research from the last 50 years shows a strong link between healthy lifestyle choices (eg. being smoke-free) and reduced rates of some chronic diseases. Healthy living doesn’t prevent you from getting heart disease, diabetes or stroke, but will considerably lower your chances of getting these diseases.

Q. What does Health For Life refer to when it talks about the importance of a comprehensive health promotion strategy?

A. We are moving towards a comprehensive health promotion strategy that encourages people to take control of their health and find ways to improve it. This strategy appeals to a variety of audiences and targets different factors that can affect a person’s health. The strategy uses a mix of education, policy change and awareness raising to reach its goals, but also calls for ‘synergy’ between programs and community partners to make it happen.

Q. Is there any cost to join Health For Life?

A. We receive funding from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

Q. How important are Health For Life’s partners?

A. Our partners are invaluable in giving their time, input and assistance in efforts we hope will spur people to live healthier.
