This booklet contains recipes that are used in school nourishment snack programs in Haliburton County.
Good Food Box
Increase your vegetable and fruit intake and stretch your dollar by buying a box of fresh produce in season; available in your community once per month. Also get recipes and storage tips every second month. For more information contact the Salvation Army in Cobourg and the Health Unit in Lindsay and Haliburton.

Physical Activity
Physical Activity Display (D)
A display based on Canada’s Physical Activity Guide. There are two displays available to be borrowed.
Stretch Videos - "Work It Out" Technique Video and "Take A Break" stretching routine (V)
“Work It Out” is a video that introduces the technique of stretching and its importance as part of a workplace health program.
“Take A Break” is an actual instructional video (approx three to five minutes) that employees can use to incorporate stretch breaks into their day. This is also be available in CD format for use at individual computer workstations.
Both videos are available free of charge to interested workplaces.
Home Busy Box (R)
Box containing no-fail froggy catch, ring toss, sensory path, ribbon ball cassette, ribbon balls, bump balls, foam hop scotch, crawl tunnel and spider ball. The Busy Box encourages families to activate infants and toddlers. Available through the Family Health Department of the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit.
Community Busy Box (R)
A tote box of equipment and game ideas to help children be physically active. The box contains rings, bean bags, ribbon wands, rubber chickens, parachute, relay shuttles, balls and a hopscotch mat. This box is loaned out to community groups or individuals upon request (eg. daycares, summer day camps, birthday parties, Girl Guides, after-school programs, church groups, etc.)
Quality Daily Physical Education (QDPE) Busy Box (R)
A box that contains a variety of activities and resources to help children be active. Resources include equipment, videos and activity cards. Developed for use in elementary school classrooms. Activities are for limited space and little or no equipment. One box is available for loan in Northumberland County.
Walking Club Manual (R)
An instruction manual for workplaces and community leaders on how to start a walking club.
Stretching Posters (R)
Set of two posters that provide visual representation of stretching exercises that can be done on the job. Copies of posters are available to interested workplaces.
Tobacco
Pig Lungs Display Model (D)
Two sets of preserved pigs lungs – one specially treated to simulate the health effects of smoking one package of cigarettes per day over 20 years.
Smoking: Truth of Dare Video (V)
This is a reality based anti-smoking video targeted to teens. It includes several well-known celebrities speaking out against smoking.
Chronic Disease Prevention
Cookie Tray Quizzes (D)
Three cookie sheets with true and false questions on eating well, being active and staying smoke-free. Participants use a battery-operated probe to select an answer. If answered correctly, the probe lights up. Appropriate for older youth and adults. Useful for displays.
Wheel of Choices (D)
This interesting game invites participants to spin a wheel to select a category: Eating Well, Being Smoke-Free, Being Active, Stress, The Heart, Wild Card and Bunches. Participants answer a question from the category selected and win a prize. Questions have been divided into age categories, including children, youth and adults

Tips for diabetics on oral care. Limited number available for distribution.
Diabetes Display (D)
A display that includes information on what diabetes is, who may be at risk and what people can do to reduce their risk. There are two displays available to be borrowed.
Stress Display (stress) (D)
A display that includes information on recognizing the signs of stress, and things to do to reduce stress. There is one display available to be borrowed.
Workplace Health Display (workplace health) (D)
This display includes information on workplace health and how the Health For Life Workplace Health Program can assist workplaces. There are four displays available.
Bottom Line Campaign Display (work-life balance) (D)
This display promotes the message of work-life balance and how it can improve a company's bottom line. This is available for loan.
Workplace Health Video (workplace health) (V)
A promotional video that highlights the importance of workplace health programs. This video profiles local businesses and their workplace health programs. This is available for loan to interested workplaces.
Community Partners In Motion Magazine (R)
A magazine is an ideal introduction for partners wanting to learn more about Health For Life's mandate, mission and reason for being. Free copies are available.
Health For Life Promotional Video (V)
A short video that gives an overview of the mandate, mission and reason for being for Health For Life.
