Environmental Health

Our Environmental work to protect members of our community from unhealthy environments. We respond to a wide variety of environmental health hazards that could compromise the safety of our residents. Through promotion, education, prevention and enforcement of the Food Premises Regulations, our staff work with the restaurants you eat in to ensure safe food handling practices are followed. We test the water of the beaches, and inspect the water and food preparation at summer camps.

When it comes to your recreation, we also inspect and test community pools and monitor the indoor air quality in arenas in the winter. Our staff help protect the safety of public drinking water from both municipal and private systems. We answer questions about water tests and results for private individuals, and we work with municipalities to ensure that regulations outlined in the Ontario Drinking Water Standards are met. We also issue boil water advisories for adverse water test results if necessary. We inspect new septic systems to ensure they are properly installed, investigate animal bites and help promote clinics to make sure your pets are vaccinated against rabies.
