Local Health Information
2006 Rapid Risk Factor Surveillance System (RRFSS) Survey Results
How many local residents admit to drinking alcohol on a regular basis? What are public attitudes towards swimming in area beaches? Are people in Haliburton County, Northumberland County and the City of Kawartha Lakes eating the recommended daily amount of fruit and vegetables?
These and other questions are answered in the 2006 findings of the Rapid Risk Factor Surveillance System (RRFSS). RRFSS results are released every year by the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit to shed light on people's attitudes and knowledge towards health and find out if their behaviour supports healthy lifestyles.
RRFSS is a monthly survey of 100 adults who are 18 years of age and older and who live in Haliburton and Northumberland counties and the City of Kawartha Lakes. Since January 2001, the HKPR District Health Unit and other health units in Ontario have been participating in RRFSS. The survey is conducted by the Institute for Social Research of York University on behalf of participating health units. RRFSS information helps the local Health Unit identify emerging issues, plan programs and improve services.
