Influenza (the flu) is a serious respiratory illness caused by a virus. The free flu vaccine can protect you from getting sick with the flu. If you do get the flu, the vaccine can make sure you have milder symptoms of the virus.

Everyone six months of age and older should get the vaccine. Children between six months and five years of age can get their flu shot from a health care provider or the Health Unit. Anyone older than five years of age can get their flu shot from one of the local pharmacies that offer the flu vaccine.

For more information, or to book a flu shot for your child under the age of five years, contact the Health Unit toll-free at 1-866-888-4577, ext. 1507.
