Position Statement | From the Deputy Medical Officer of Health
Following the recent water main break, the Village of Millbrook in the Township of Cavan Monaghan, is currently under a Boil Water Advisory. This measure is not taken lightly—it is done to protect your health and the health of those around you. When a water system is compromised, harmful microorganisms can enter the supply. Consuming or using untreated water, even in small amounts, may cause serious illness, especially in children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems.
Following the Boil Water Advisory means bringing tap water to a rapid, rolling boil for at least one full minute before using it for drinking, cooking, washing produce, brushing teeth, or preparing infant formula. This simple but essential step destroys harmful bacteria, viruses, and parasites.
Public health depends on collective action. Each household that follows the Boil Water Advisory contributes to keeping our community safe and preventing outbreaks of waterborne disease. Please follow advice and directions from the health unit and municipality until the Boil Water Advisory is lifted. Updates will continue to be shared as more information becomes available.
Together, by taking these precautions, we can safeguard the health of our families and our community.
