The HKPR District Health Unit serves communities in the County of Haliburton, the City of Kawartha Lakes, and Northumberland County, with offices in Port Hope, Haliburton, and Lindsay. Our mission is to promote health and prevent illness through five divisions: Medical Officer of Health, Corporate Services, Foundational Standards, Health Promotion, and Health Protection.

    Reporting to the Department Manager, the School Health Nurse (SHN) will support the fulfilment of board of health requirements to improve the health of school-aged children and youth as per the School Health Program Standard and related guidelines and protocols under the Ontario Public Health Standards: Requirements for Programs, Services and Accountability (OPHS) including but not limited to the school-based immunization program (SBIP).

    As a member of the Health Promotion Division, the Public Health Nurse is accountable to Health Promotion Management for the implementation of the assigned Requirements of the Healthy Growth and Development Program Standards of the Ontario Public Health Standards (OPHS) 2018 and relevant protocols. The Public Health Nurse may also be accountable to implement the Healthy Babies, Healthy Children Program in accordance with the Healthy Babies, Healthy Children Protocol 2018 and other duties as assigned by Health Promotion Management.

    As a member of the Health Promotion Division, the Public Health Nurse is accountable to Health Promotion Management for the implementation of the assigned Requirements of the Healthy Growth and Development Program Standards of the Ontario Public Health Standards (OPHS) 2018 and relevant protocols.     The Administrative Assistant will be an integral member of program team as assigned. Will assist program staff with the organization and administration of program activities and provide administrative support in an efficient and courteous manner, ensuring confidentiality at all times.

    The Clinic Physician provides medical care to the clients of Sexual Health Clinics in accordance with the objectives of the Sexual Health Services Program, the Policies and Procedures of the Health Unit, applicable legislation, and regulations of their profession.

    Tobacco Student Test Shopper – Health Protection Division

    The Tobacco Student Test Shopper is accountable to Health Protection Division Management for assisting the Tobacco Control Officers (TCO) during tobacco vendor enforcement checks/inspections in accordance with the Tobacco, Vapour and Smoke Protocol (as current).
