HKPR is pleased to provide important public health programs and services to residents in Northumberland County, Haliburton County and the City of Kawartha Lakes (click here for a map of the Health Unit’s geographical boundaries). Our staff, led by the Medical Officer of Health, provide programs and services to help keep our community healthy by preventing illness, protecting against disease and promoting healthy lifestyles. We work with other agencies, health care providers and partners to address social conditions so that everyone can have has an equal opportunity to be healthy.

The Health Unit’s programs and services are developed under the guidance of the Ontario Public Health Standards: Requirements for Programs, Services and Accountability (OPHS). The Standards are published by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and include Protocols and Guidelines that define specific requirements for programs and services.
