Board of Health

The Board of Health oversees the work of the Health Unit and ensures staff provide the programs and services required under the Ontario Public Health Standards. These standards are set by the Ontario Ministry of Health.

On behalf of the Board of Health, the Medical Officer of Health administers the public health programs and services in agreement with the Mission, Vision and Values of our Health Unit.

The Board of Health has representatives from the funding municipalities (Northumberland County, Haliburton County, and the City of Kawartha Lakes) and provincial appointees.

Structure of the Board of Health

In accordance with the Health Protection and Promotion Act, the Board of Health for the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit is comprised of six municipal members as follows: three members appointed by Northumberland County Council, two members appointed by the City of Kawartha Lakes Council, and one member appointed by the Haliburton County Council.

The Lieutenant Governor in Council may appoint one or more persons as members of a board of health (Provincial Appointees).

Process for Provincial Appointments

Interested members of the public can apply for a provincial appointment through the Public Appointments Secretariat. Learn more about the requirements, find additional details and view application process.
