  • Positive West Nile Virus Detected in Dead American Crows in Northumberland County

    July 17, 2025 — The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit and Peterborough Public Health (now legally merged) are notifying the public that West Nile virus (WNV) has been detected in Northumberland County. This is the first confirmed case of WNV in the area this year.

    Boil Water Advisories

    Generally, the Health Unit issues a Boil Water Advisory when there is known contamination of a water supply OR when there is a risk of contamination to the water supply. The Boil Water Advisory helps to protect the health of the community that the water system serves.  It is a recommendation for residents to only drink tap water if it has been boiled for at least one minute.

  • Air Quality Warning Issued for Health Unit Region Due to Wildfire Smoke

    July 14, 2025 — The HKPR District Health Unit and Peterborough Public Health (now legally merged) is informing the City and County of Peterborough, City of Kawartha Lakes and Northumberland County that a Special Air Quality Statement has been issued by Environment Canada as the Air Quality Health Index will reach a level of 10, and the County of Haliburton will reach a level of 8, indicating high pollution levels due to wildfire smoke travelling through the area.

  • Extended Heat Warning Issued for City of Kawartha Lakes, City and County of Peterborough

    July 11, 2025 - The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit and Peterborough Public Health (now legally merged) are informing that Environment Canada is forecasting hot, humid weather starting today, July 11th, through to possibly Thursday, July 17th, for the City of Kawartha Lakes, City of Peterborough and the County of Peterborough.
