July 17, 2025 — The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit and Peterborough Public Health (now legally merged) are notifying the public that West Nile virus (WNV) has been detected in Northumberland County. This is the first confirmed case of WNV in the area this year.

Generally, the Health Unit issues a Boil Water Advisory when there is known contamination of a water supply OR when there is a risk of contamination to the water supply. The Boil Water Advisory helps to protect the health of the community that the water system serves.  It is a recommendation for residents to only drink tap water if it has been boiled for at least one minute.

Community outbreak listings are updated regularly when a new outbreak is declared, updated or declared over at facilities within the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District area.

July 14, 2025 — The HKPR District Health Unit and Peterborough Public Health (now legally merged) is informing the City and County of Peterborough, City of Kawartha Lakes and Northumberland County that a Special Air Quality Statement has been issued by Environment Canada as the Air Quality Health Index will reach a level of 10, and the County of Haliburton will reach a level of 8, indicating high pollution levels due to wildfire smoke travelling through the area.

July 11, 2025 - The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit and Peterborough Public Health (now legally merged) are informing that Environment Canada is forecasting hot, humid weather starting today, July 11th, through to possibly Thursday, July 17th, for the City of Kawartha Lakes, City of Peterborough and the County of Peterborough. 

As a member of the Health Protection Division the Immunization Nurse is accountable to Health Protection Management for the implementation of the assigned Requirements of the Infectious Diseases Program Standards of the Ontario Public Health Standards (OPHS) 2018 and related protocols and guidelines

July 4, 2025 – The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit and Peterborough Public Health (now legally merged) is informing that Environment Canada is forecasting hot, humid weather Saturday, July 5 through Sunday, July 6 for the City of Kawartha Lakes, City of Peterborough and the County of Peterborough.

June 17, 2025 — Today, Peterborough Public Health (now legally merged with Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit) is releasing a list of potential public measles exposures, after another case of measles has been confirmed within the region.

June 16, 2025 - The Haliburton Kawartha Northumberland Peterborough Health Unit (formerly the HKPR District Health Unit and Peterborough Public Health) would like to advise media and the community of an upcoming Board of Health meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 18, 2025 at 5 p.m.
